Exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway
Overlooks
You can take the parkway all the way to Mt Mitchell or Asheville if you’d like, but some of the best views and overlooks are just a short distance away. The closest and our favorite is Thunder Hill Overlook, which is North of Blowing Rock, just about two miles from Hwy 321. Take a drive and find your favorite.

Hiking
Some of the best trails in the area are right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Cone Manor Trails, Julian Price Park, Rough Ridge, Grandfather Mountain, Bass Lake, and Linville Falls, are all just a short drive down the parkway and easy to access. Beacon Heights Trail near the Parkway and Hwy 221 may be the best bang for your buck - a short, easy hike with great views!

Linn cove Viaduct
The 1987 dedication of the "Missing Link" in "America's Most Scenic Road" added another landmark to the Parkway, then and now, the most visited unit of the National Park Service. The groundbreaking, mountainside-defying, cantilevered span on Grandfather Mountain has become the quintessential image of the Blue Ridge Parkway, seen on everything from television car commercials to postcards.

Flat Top Manor at Moses Cone Park
This late-1800s mountaintop mansion was home to an early denim manufacturer whose surrounding land became Parkway property. The striking structure houses an outlet for the Southern Highland Craft Guild where artisans demonstrate their crafts. There's a Parkway information desk, and a book/gift shop. Weekend tours explore the once off-limits upstairs quarters of Moses and Bertha Cone. The easy Figure-Eight interpretive trail is just outside.

Julian Price Memorial Park
Price Park is a haven for relaxation and recreation with the 47-acre Price Lake as its focal point. Visitors enjoy one of the most popular and largest picnic areas on the Parkway, along with camping, boating and fishing on Price Lake, and ample opportunities to explore the mountains on hiking trails. The Tanawha Trail stretches 13.5 miles from Price Park to Beacon Heights, paralleling the Parkway and rising along the slopes of Grandfather Mountain.
